Canon fire breaks the gloom. The men make for the trees
A hundred rifles bark in tune. The dead in piles
There’s no where left to flee

I rally men in a drainage ditch, the fog covers our flight
The screams reach a fevered pitch. We’ll all be dead
We have to stand and fight

We break away in groups of two. We’ve got to circle around
The shadows part our aim is true. Attack the flank
And drive them down into the ground

Bullets fly and chaos reigns. Every one of them dies
A shot fills me up with pain. I cry ‘Who’s left?’
And quietly I close my eyes
